The Nursing Fashions of Royalty

We’ve moved! Since creating this blog in 2017, we’ve launched Becoming Mama — artfully crafted fashions for bump to breastfeeding. Please visit our new blog for the latest and greatest. Happy mommy-ing!

Where do the Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Sofia and Princess Victoria get their maternity and nursing fashions?

Seraphine of course.

A leading European retailer, Seraphine provides maternity and nursing fashions so stylish that you’ll want to wear them forever. Celebrities like Gwen Stefani, Jessica Alba and Kate Hudson rock their styles in addition to royalty.

I love every single item I’ve purchased from Seraphine. Honestly, it’s been a challenge trying to determine which of their items to share first.

I truly hope you’ll check this brand out. Most of their nursing styles are for bump and beyond, so you’ll get the most use out of them if you shop while you’re still expecting. I wish I had discovered them sooner!

Today I’m sharing the Lift Up Maternity & Nursing Sweater. This top is actually two pieces – a long black tank with fold over access (suitable for layering only) and a shorter gray sweater with a classy black collar.

This top is great value with the two pieces – I find myself wearing the black tank with a number of button-down shirts and cardigans.

I’m wearing a large, which was great for my transition back to work at six weeks postpartum. These days the top is a little loose, so I’d say it runs true to size.

This machine washable sweater is easy to care for. Simply hang it to dry, and iron if needed (though I usually don’t have to).

For nursing access, lift up the sweater, then move the folds on the black tank. Many times I’ll take the sweater layer off at the office so I don’t have to worry about getting lanolin or coconut oil on the sweater. However, the fabric is thick enough that I’ve not experienced issues with staining.

The gray sweater has a slight heathered look to it, and this texture is kind to spills. The top portion of the tank is soft cotton, while the bottom is a non-stretchy polyester material that looks more upscale.

I’m pairing this top with size 10 black pants from White House Black Market and kitten heels.

All of my Seraphine items are outstanding quality, but do pay close attention to the care instructions. Most are machine washable but need to be laid flat or hung to dry. With nicer, gentler fabrics, you’ll want to be more cautious of what you choose to wash things with.

Originally $89, this top was $53 when I purchased it in December, and it is still available at that discounted rate. I was able to get an additional 15% off – I believe it was a promotional code that required a minimum spend. Tax is a little higher given that this is a purchase from Europe, so keep that in mind when adding things to your shopping cart.

    1. Thanks Emily! One of my #1 frustrations is how EXPENSIVE this stuff can be. I have a post coming soon with some more affordable options! I don’t blame the designers… they’re in business to make money and they know we’ll pay a premium because there just aren’t many options out there. But dang it hurts my purse!
