It’s extremely rare to find a top that works well for pregnancy to nursing postpartum. Maia Moda’s Maia top is flawless for this transition.
I’m wearing size large in camo print (though with the weight I’ve dropped a medium would provide a better fit now). I’ll wear this top by itself over the weekends and layer it with a cardigan or blazer at the office.
In this photo I’m pairing it with Chico’s Essential Slim Travelers Pants ($69), which are comfy, professional and perfect for the transitioning postpartum body. However, now that my size is stable, I generally prefer to pair this loose top with a more fitted trouser.
This tank also looks great with jeans, and you can see me wearing it (three months postpartum) more casually at a friend’s bridal shower.
The relaxed fit is kind to a postpartum belly. I love the slightly lower neckline, which showcases collarbones nicely while still providing coverage for the ladies.
When nursing, you simply life the top layer, then open a flap. You can do this one handed – no buttons, snaps or zippers to mess with! Plus, the top layer doubles as a nursing cover when you’re in public. When I’m pumping at work, I generally use a ribbon or hair tie to keep this top flap tied back. Maia Moda has a quick video that thoroughly demos the nursing access (kudos Maia Moda… so many brands keep us shoppers guessing as to how we’ll nurse in their breastfeeding lines!).
The fabric has to be my favorite part of this top! The feminine “camo” is especially forgiving to spills. The satin-like polyester innately looks dressier, and it’s soft against the skin. Plus, it avoids stains and wrinkles.
I’ve worn this machine washable shirt at least once a week since ordering it in February, and it looks just as sharp as the day I first purchased it.
I would love to buy another in a smaller size (gift alert idea for anyone who feels like impressing me ;-)), but at $98 a pop I’ll make do with this one. They offer a similarly designed dress for $155 and a long sleeve top for $138. Sales are rare, but they usually offer a small discount with an email subscription and have some discounts (up to 30%) around major holidays. I like to calculate my clothes at a “cost per wear,” so although this one is pricey I consider it to be a good investment as often as I’m sporting it.
To recap, this top is outstanding – the only negatives are (1) you’ll have to find something to help you hold the flap out of the way while pumping, and (2) it’s an investment! So my tip? Order it while you’re expecting so you can maximize your time in it!
